As Seen On TV

She lives everyday as if she is on camera

Every errand a chance to meet her destiny

Longing for the paparazzi who don’t exist

The look, the walk, all perfected for the audience

Who will never see

The beauty she strives for As Seen On TV

She glides through the grocery store

Perfect hair, nails, makeup

Oh to be as perfect as the airbrush can make us

Carrying out an affair with a man she’s  never met

With a wife and child she chooses not to admit

Because when he sings, it is to her only

She believes in one true love

Who she will meet by chance, perhaps right now.

She waits for the love with practiced patience

Permanently smiling for the camera

Everyday she becomes a little more aware of the waiting

Why had it been so long?

Had she done something wrong?

In the check out stand, she pauses with a slight frown;

There he is without her at some event she will never attend

Reality hits for a split second and she is still and sad

But as the cashier hands her her change, she’s sure she hears the shutter

Smile Number 2, for the camera, the winning smile, that says:

I will find him soon.

And we will meet and he know with one look

That we are meant to be.

And it will be all “happy ever after,

As Seen on TV, As Seen on TV,  As Seen on TV

(again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again).
